Is it bad that my jaw cracks every time I chew?

Mine does too; it came from my sophomore year in high school when another student hit me in the face with a megaphone. I've asked a couple of dentists about it, and they say that as long as it doesn't hurt (which it doesn't), it's nothing to worry about.

My jaw cracks every time i open it, regardless of the reason.

It makes kissing a bit awkward, but I don't even notice it anymore.

My jaw cracks everytime I open it WIDE, like when I yawn. It's scary because everytime I think I won't be able to close it, but I don't worry about it. You probably have that...jaw clicking syndrome....crap. At the end of the day if it doesn't hurt or hurt a lot I would leave it alone. I've heard of people going to try and have it fixed and ended up with it cracking even more than before, so I wouldn't take the chance. Plus I think that the stuff they use to correct the jaw clicking includes wires. Who wants wires on their faces? Then again, yours cracks everytime you open your mouth? That would be hella annoying and hard to tolerate. Couldn't hurt to at least see what the dentist can do about it. But as far as I know, it's nothing serious- just annoying.

Isn't is annoying? Mine does it, too. Makes you want to smack your own face.

Or maybe that's just me, the pain slut that I am. :D

Yeah, I have that temporalmandibular joint problem too. (YAY FOR BIG WORDS!) Sometimes my jaw unhinges slightly and locks open, especially when I'm at the dentist's. It's really annoying.

there's some really painful but really effective massage techniques for tmj - here's one: put your fingers in the 'i'm crushing your head' kids in the hall position... with your fingers kinda like that, stick your first finger in your mouth and have your thumb on the outside of your cheek. reach as high up your gums and as far back as you can inside your mouth and close your fingers... keeping them as tight as you can stand it, drag your fingers down to your lower jaw. repeat repeatedly and in different spots along your cheek. owie but effective. there's more owie stuff where that came from if ya want.
