As I've mentioned, we've been baking all day...

Unfortunate bottle location or secret ingredient??

Today was mostly filler. Tonight is supposedly the largest full moon of the year? I haven't seen it. It's so cold outside it hurts.

My family went to the Madrigal Dinner tonight at Wright State, and it was very pleasant. There was nog. LOTS of nog. I'll recap it tomorrow, because now I'm just kind of writing enough so that I can say I made an entry for Holidailies and then go to bed so I can work tomorrow and then get my hairs dyed and then go to my friend's graduation party and then sleep maybe somewhere, sometime.

Feeling much better today, though still full of phlegm ;-p

I slept 14 hours last night and spent most of the early part of the day on the couch. Around 2pm I showered and got dressed and drove to Columbus. I met my sister at her apartment because she wanted to hear the "clicking noise" that was apparently what the urgent care docs had heard Thursday night that led them to think pneumonia. She couldn't find it, so I guess I am getting better. Or she just sucks with a stethoscope ;-p Also, I am not a cat.

We met my dad at Akai Hana for dinner. YUM JAPANESE FOOD. Their sushi is pretty good, but maybe I'm just loyal to Sake, but they really do have some of the best sushi I've tried. I also had a salmon teriyaki appetizer and a shrimp tempura appetizer. YUM. I had to dine and dash and leave my dad with the bill, though ^^;; Because I was late to see....

SPAMALOT!! This show is part of a four-show-package deal I bought myself for my birthday. I got to my seat about 2 minutes before the show started. EXCELLENT seat, row D, left center. I was hoping it would be THE seat, but as soon as I saw it wasn't an aisle seat I knew it wouldn't be. I was seat D121 and THE seat was D101. SO CLOSE!!

The show was just as good as when I saw it last year. The cast was fantastic. I much much MUCH preferred the current Lady of the Lake to the one we saw last year. The one last year sang from her throat too much. The one tonight was excellent.

I was surprised by how short the show was; with intermission it was just about two hours. I guess I'm more used to Wicked's 2 hour and 45 minute running time. ^_^

Speaking of Wicked, only [ profile] thepookey and [ profile] kerinda wanted to go with me in January, right? Because tickets go on sale IN THE NEXT WEEK, so I need to know who's going!!
I had a fantastic weekend full of family and friends.

My good friend [ profile] winterswitchery got married and moved to Canada last August. She finally received her residency, and had to return to Jackson, MI in order to re-enter Canada as a resident. I took advantage of her only being 3 1/2 hours away instead of two days away in Nova Scotia and went to visit her.

[ profile] pirogoeth and [ profile] kaichou were also going to come down from Toronto, so it was like another mini-KaiCon! ^_^

I hadn't seen Meggie since last June at her bridal shower, and I hadn't seen Candice and Berny since September 2004! So Saturday morning I set off for Michigan. I made my usual good time until I hit construction at the Ohio/Michigan border :-\

I finally arrived at Meg's parent's house. It was so great to see her again! I only got to see her about once a year when she lived in Michigan, but there was just something different about knowing that she was only a few hours away. I hung out with her and her friend Sarah until Berny and Candice arrived.

Bern had his heart set on Culver's, so we crammed too many people into his BMW and set off. Mmmm...bad-for-me foods...

After lunch we went to Putt-Putt, where I was reminded that I suck at putting. I'm good at hitting things, though.

The day ended early; I left around 7pm since I still had to drive back to Dayton. It was so great to see everyone, though. It's times like Saturday that make me hate the distance between me and my internet friends :-(

Meg is CAH-RAZY! Click on picture to go to the Flickr and see more.

We play putt-putt some good.

I was just entering the Dayton suburbs around 11pm when Carlette called. "We're going swimming," she said.

Well, of course we are. What else do you do at 11pm on a Saturday night? So I get home, grab my swim stuff, and we were off to a friend of her boyfriend's who had an aboveground pool. We swam until about 1:30am. The stars were beautiful, and I was able to correctly identify Jupiter and the Big Dipper.

I crawled into bed at 2am. A very long, but very full and fun day filled with lots of laughter and friends. Really, I couldn't ask for anything more than that ^_^

Sunday I meant to get up early and work out, but because of the excitement of Saturday I ended up sleeping in until 10am. Yikes! Carlette and I set off for Cincinnati, where my family was having a Father's Day picnic. But first I had managed to talk mom into taking me shopping for some new clothes, since I can't fit into pretty much anything in my closet any more.

Mom had her heart set on Stein Mart, but I really wanted to go to Fashion Bug or Deb or JC Penney or Kohls. Or anywhere but Stein Mart. Since she was paying, we compromised on Fashion Bug and Stein Mart. I found two great tops and a dress at Fashion Bug. At Stein Mart...well. I found a shirt. I was happy to get the clothes. That's all I'm sayin' ^_~

We also went to Fresh Market, which is relatively new in Cincinnati. I'd never been there. It's pretty comparable to Dorothy Lane Market in Dayton. We got a bunch of fancy delicious salads for the picnic, and Carlette found her precious mint water. There was a wine tasting for only 10 cents a taste, and we got a bit tipsy ^_~

We went to French Park for the picnic and set up a spot near the swings and the creek. We took the dogs, and they had a great time splashing in the creek. Dad had a great time because he got to man the grill and be surrounded by his family ^_^

Mom decided she had to go swing, while still holding onto the dogs.

I'm so happy that Carlette is a part of my family! She's the bestest.
It has been a clusterfuck of a day, culminating in the realization that I had grossly underestimated my summer quarter fee bill from Wright State.

For some reason, I had it in my head that it would only be around $400 for my summer class.

No, no.

A four-credit hour class at $220.50 a credit hour is $882.

Oh, and it's due Sunday.

Well, all I've got is $400. And the book is another $80. I'd thought I might try to take another summer class, but fuck that. I don't have $1600! Sure makes me appreciate my financial aid!

My mom just left for I sent an email to my dad begging for $600. *sigh*
I may be drunk. Oh, who am I kidding, I am drunk ^_~

Pretty good weekend.

Last night [ profile] xoraclex and I went to see [ profile] sirendream in the premiere of her new show, Mariel. It was a really cute show, and Marcy was SO adorable! I can't believe it's been four years since I've seen her. She was fantastic in the show; I told Carlette she made the most adorable '80s teenager. ^_^ We must get together again before she leaves town!

I had to work all weekend, which sucked :-( But I got some readings done for homework. I got a 100% on my first Access quiz (Access is a database program, true or false?). Some good things happened.

Tonight was my family's Passover seder. I love seder. The food is delicious, the jokes are always the same. OMG charoses. I ate all the charoses. Ok, not really, but I ate a lot of charoses. I am SO full. I also had some wine. Just a little. Pretty much every time I thought "Dear God, what did I do?" *chug glass of wine* Anyway, it was really nice to be with my family for the holiday, and I'm so glad that Carlette could be a part of the celebration. It was a really nice evening.

I'm also glad that Carlette was willing to drive home. Because did I mention many, many glasses of wine? ^_~
Study study study all day with the study.

Got to Panera at 8am. Study study study. Finished typing my philosophy notes by 11:30am, drove to work to print all 24 pages. Drove back to Panera to start assembling my notes into flash cards.

[ profile] xoraclex, her boyfriend Nick, [ profile] mostlie_sunnie, and [ profile] shrike arrived and we had lunch. Then they left to have adventures, and I had more studies.

After having breakfast and lunch at Panera, I managed to talk my mom into buying me dinner. I drove down to West Chester and me, my mom, dad, and [ profile] suraimu had dinner at Bravo. YUM. We split calamari and lobster risotto for appetizers, I had pasta for dinner, and TIRAMISU for dessert. A world of yum. And now a world of full tummy.

While I was gone, Nick cleaned out my carport!! The people who lived here before me were PIGS. They left a lot of trash in my carport. I didn't have a chance to clean it out before winter, and it got covered in snow for most of this year. Now that the snow's been melting, I'd been thinking I needed to buy some work gloves and finally clean it out. It was disgusting. Nick just did it for me! He's nice ^_^

I was typing this entry when Carlette knocked on the door to have me come see the place that Nick rented in our neighborhood. He rented an office space/warehouse over our landlord's office. The space is kinda dingy right now, but they're working on cleaning it up. We laughed a lot. I like to laugh. I like funny friends.

Tomorrow is study group and ....studying.

Good day

It's Parent's Weekend at Wright State, so my dad has been spending the weekend with me so he can participate in the events. I picked him up at the bus station last night, and we hung out for a little bit before going to bed.

We slept in a bit this morning, and then he helped me take care of a bunch of things that needed to be done around the house! First he put a new tire on the Mazda, then he jumped the Mazda and let it charge for most of the day (it had died because I forgot to start it every few days). Then he tried to warm the apartment by replacing the furnace filter and duct taping the open vent that lets so much cold air in. It's already warmer in the basement!

Mom picked us up at 4:30 and we went to dinner at Red Lobster. YUMMY! It was very crowded, probably because it was the weekend before Valentine's Day and it was right before the Wright State game. That's why we were there.

We got to the Nutter Center right before the game started. We had to walk a loooong way in the cold. Have I mentioned I'm sick of winter? So, so sick of winter.

When they were announcing the Wright State players, and the Wright State banners carriers were running all over the court and the cheerleaders were going crazy, and the fans were going crazy, and the fight song was playing, I admit I got a little choked up. I'm just so happy to have this opportunity to finish my education at a real university. I fucked up my opportunities at Indiana and UC, and then I lost my chance at court reporting because of my hands. I'm so grateful to be a part of the Wright State community, and I was happy to share the evening with my parents. They are a major reason why I'm back at school, and they are a huge part of my success.

My mom and dad love college basketball, and the game was arguably the best game in a long time. Wright State beat #10 nationally ranked Butler by 12 points. It was such an exciting game! We cheered heartily the whole time, and my parents got really into it. At the end of the game, the fans rushed the court in jubilation. I'm so glad we got to go! As we were leaving, we ran into my Literature professor, so I was able to introduce my parents to him.

Tomorrow morning we're going to a breakfast with the president. They'll be announcing the winner of the Parent of the Year. I nominated my mom for the award...I really hope she gets it! Keep your fingers crossed for her!!
Forward's List of 50 most influential Jews

Jill Jacobs, about 1/4 of the way down, under Ideas and Activism, is my dad's cousin's daughter. What does that make her to me? No idea.

It's a small Jewworld.
I was watching VH1's 100 Greatest Teen Stars, and they began profiling Alicia Silverstone. Of course they played scenes from Clueless, which we can all agree is one of the greatest movies ever made.

My mom comes running over to the television and just stares. I ask her, "Can I help you?" She generally doesn't care for pop culture or VH1. She said, "Clueless! I love that movie!"

"Are you kidding me?"

"It's so cute and funny! I've seen it seven or eight times!"

My mom loves Clueless. My mom's cool quotient just went up about 10 points.
On my way home from school, I thought How wonderful it would be if one of my bumper sticker orders came in today?

Then I got home and they were both there!!

Pimp my carz, yo.

Sweet. ^_^

I took a three-hour nap, until my sister woke me up at 5pm. Since I use my phone as my alarm clock, I was incredibly disoriented. I couldn't figure out for a few minutes that it was still Friday afternoon.

Carlette and I went to I-Zu for dinner. It was pretty good, but they didn't have ginger sauce for my rice. So I took the rice home and put my own ginger sauce on it. DELICIOUS.
As much as I adore my quiet apartment to myself, it always seems so empty and lonely after my family leaves :-(

My dad came down to spend the night last night, and we slept one last night at the Old Apartment. The movers came bright and early this morning, and they moved everything out quickly and efficiently. We were hoping there would be some entertainment getting the couch out (they had a LOT of trouble getting it in), but they slipped it right out the door.

They took less time than they estimated, so it was about $90 cheaper, which is always good.

My mom, [ profile] suraimu, and my uncle drove up from Cincinnati and met us at the new place. My uncle helped a lot, he got the washer connected, he built a storage rack, helped with the shower rod and curtain, and hung the valances over the bay window.

We all just hung out, unpacked a bunch, and watched tv all day. Around 6:30 we headed out to O'Charley's for dinner with [ profile] xoraclex and met up with my aunt, my cousin Jon, and his new wife Laura. They came up to see the new apartment and also to celebrate my birthday (Oct 17), my uncle's birthday (Oct 20) and Rob's birthday (Nov 20). After dinner we came back to the apartment, had cake and ice cream, and chatted for a good hour and a half.

They just left, and now the apartment is empty and quiet again. Now I'm really here. My furniture is all set up, and I really really live here!
