It is FREEZING in my house ;_; It was 59 inside this morning. I tried to turn the furnace on, but it started making an awful grinding sparking noise, so I turned it off. So it is still freezing.

It is freezing at work. They haven't turned the furnace on here either.

It is freezing at school. I think they still have the a/c on!

Yesterday the fire alarm went off while I was in Millett. We all had to evacuate the building. MORE COLD.

I went to the first meeting of the new WSU Astronomy Club. There was a girl from my astronomy class at Sinclair there! We remarked that it was funny seeing each other again, since it had been two years. Now I'm an active member of four clubs, which is a lot, but they're all very diverse! Astronomy Club, French Club, FMLA, and Dean's Student Advisory Board.
Last night I emailed Carlette and told her we needed to get our karaoke on, as it had been far too long. We went to the usual Wednesday night karaoke place, but our favorite host, Nancy Sell was not there! She's cutting back her late-night hours apparently, and stopped doing Wednesday night karaoke. So the guy who normally does Sunday night karaoke was there, and he SUCKED. His music sucked. He didn't know how to work his own equipement. It wasn't fun.

I sang "Like a Prayer," but the screen was rolling the whole time, and by the end of the song I was feeling nauseous. Carlette sang "Bring Me Some Water," but he didn't turn off the vocal track, so it was like she was singing along to the CD. Lame. We left disappointed, but with plans to go see Nancy on Monday night.

I came back to Carlette's for a bit, but then I was tired and came home and read my newest Inu-Yasha book and went to bed.

I woke up the next morning and went downstairs to get a pill. I noticed it was freezing downstairs. What the hell? Oh, my back door is wide open. That's lovely. VERY luckily the cats were still inside, all my possessions were still inside, and I'm still alive.

I went back upstairs and dozed until Carlette called me for my "official" wake-up call. We each hopped into our respective showers and then set off for our Day of Fun!

But then tragedy struck. Carlette needed to call Planned Parenthood to make an appointment for a check up. You know, because they have other services than just killing babies. She couldn't get 411 to work on her phone, so I lent her mine. The 411 operator connected her to a church! I was so outraged. I grabbed the phone back, called 411, and demanded to speak to a supervisor. I explained what happened and the woman said that she would credit the call. I stated that I felt what the operator had done was extremely inappropriate, and I felt that the supervisor needed to speak with her about it. Silence on the other end. I repeated my statement in slightly different wording. Silence on the other end. I asked her if she heard me, and then she gets attitude and starts getting uppity with me. I bitched right back at her and told her I was done with the conversation. But OOOO, I was so pissed! You should try calling and asking 411 for the number for Planned Parenthood and see what they do.

Finally we got to the mall to get our hairs cut. I just wanted to trim off my split ends; I'm growing my hair out to donate it as part of my Mission 101. My hair needs to be between 8-10 inches to donate, and the stylist told me that my hair was right at 8 inches, so I could have cut it all off and donated it today. The thought was really tempting and exciting. But I decided to just get the split ends cut off and then grow it back out to a full length. Carlette got a really cute new style that is not too short ^_^

We went to the arcade to play DDR. We only played four rounds because we were getting sweaty and hungry. I tried on some jeans at Deb's, but I didn't like them.

Then we went to SAKE for lunch. *choir of angels singing* I <3 that place so much! Oh, the rice! Oh, the sushi! Oh, the ginger ginger ginger!! Oh, the j-pop from 1999 that brings me right back to the good ol' VA days! ^_~ Yum!!

While we were browsing Half-Price Books after dinner, work called me in early. You know I don't mind going to work. So here I am.
Study study study all day with the study.

Got to Panera at 8am. Study study study. Finished typing my philosophy notes by 11:30am, drove to work to print all 24 pages. Drove back to Panera to start assembling my notes into flash cards.

[livejournal.com profile] xoraclex, her boyfriend Nick, [livejournal.com profile] mostlie_sunnie, and [livejournal.com profile] shrike arrived and we had lunch. Then they left to have adventures, and I had more studies.

After having breakfast and lunch at Panera, I managed to talk my mom into buying me dinner. I drove down to West Chester and me, my mom, dad, and [livejournal.com profile] suraimu had dinner at Bravo. YUM. We split calamari and lobster risotto for appetizers, I had pasta for dinner, and TIRAMISU for dessert. A world of yum. And now a world of full tummy.

While I was gone, Nick cleaned out my carport!! The people who lived here before me were PIGS. They left a lot of trash in my carport. I didn't have a chance to clean it out before winter, and it got covered in snow for most of this year. Now that the snow's been melting, I'd been thinking I needed to buy some work gloves and finally clean it out. It was disgusting. Nick just did it for me! He's nice ^_^

I was typing this entry when Carlette knocked on the door to have me come see the place that Nick rented in our neighborhood. He rented an office space/warehouse over our landlord's office. The space is kinda dingy right now, but they're working on cleaning it up. We laughed a lot. I like to laugh. I like funny friends.

Tomorrow is study group and ....studying.

Good day

Feb. 10th, 2007 10:48 pm
It's Parent's Weekend at Wright State, so my dad has been spending the weekend with me so he can participate in the events. I picked him up at the bus station last night, and we hung out for a little bit before going to bed.

We slept in a bit this morning, and then he helped me take care of a bunch of things that needed to be done around the house! First he put a new tire on the Mazda, then he jumped the Mazda and let it charge for most of the day (it had died because I forgot to start it every few days). Then he tried to warm the apartment by replacing the furnace filter and duct taping the open vent that lets so much cold air in. It's already warmer in the basement!

Mom picked us up at 4:30 and we went to dinner at Red Lobster. YUMMY! It was very crowded, probably because it was the weekend before Valentine's Day and it was right before the Wright State game. That's why we were there.

We got to the Nutter Center right before the game started. We had to walk a loooong way in the cold. Have I mentioned I'm sick of winter? So, so sick of winter.

When they were announcing the Wright State players, and the Wright State banners carriers were running all over the court and the cheerleaders were going crazy, and the fans were going crazy, and the fight song was playing, I admit I got a little choked up. I'm just so happy to have this opportunity to finish my education at a real university. I fucked up my opportunities at Indiana and UC, and then I lost my chance at court reporting because of my hands. I'm so grateful to be a part of the Wright State community, and I was happy to share the evening with my parents. They are a major reason why I'm back at school, and they are a huge part of my success.

My mom and dad love college basketball, and the game was arguably the best game in a long time. Wright State beat #10 nationally ranked Butler by 12 points. It was such an exciting game! We cheered heartily the whole time, and my parents got really into it. At the end of the game, the fans rushed the court in jubilation. I'm so glad we got to go! As we were leaving, we ran into my Literature professor, so I was able to introduce my parents to him.

Tomorrow morning we're going to a breakfast with the president. They'll be announcing the winner of the Parent of the Year. I nominated my mom for the award...I really hope she gets it! Keep your fingers crossed for her!!
I went to bed at 8pm, so I woke up at 4am :-\ I tried to sleep for another hour, and eventually gave up, so I've been downstairs watching tv since 5am.

Saturday I hosted a meeting of my womyn's spiritual group. It was my first time hosting something at my new place, so I cleaned like crazy, but it was still messy :-( We had lunch at Ruby Tuesdays, where I gorged myself on their DELISH-TASTIC salad bar.

Later that evening I had rehearsals for the Vagina Monologues. I really like my monologue, but it really dries my mouth out and it really makes my throat raw. Need lots of water and tea, I think.

It has suddenly turned very cold. It is freezing in my apartment. Last night I ran the space heater in my room with the door shut for 15 minutes to warm it up, and I kept the electric blanket on all night. The kitties liked that.

The high temp for the next 10 days is going to be in the 20s, and it just makes me want to cry ;_; So cold! I hate winter!!
YAY! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] suraimu I am posting this from my desktop computer and its brand-new wireless network card!

I can get online from my desktop computer again! It's been over a year!

Oh happy day ^_^
The Friday Five, stolen four days late from [livejournal.com profile] barenakedrachel:

1) Tell us about where you live: I live in a two-story townhouse in Dayton, OH. It's actually just over the border from Oakwood, which is a really swanky suburb of Dayton. So we get some of the swank without the high taxes ^_~ You can tell when you cross into Dayton, because the road gets crappier. I LOVE my new townhouse. It's got brand-new carpet, it's huge, it has a full basement, and a large kitchen. I love roomy kitchens; I can't stand galley kitchens.

2) If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be? I'd love it if the furnace would actually make the house warm. :-\ I set it on 72 and it only gets up to 60.

3) Do you do laundry on a regular schedule? I do laundry when there are no clean clothes left.

4) Describe the place that you sleep: I'm currently sleeping in my office/guest room/ritual space on my daybed. I have a queen-sized mattress in my bedroom, but no box spring or bed frame. I won't get those until my dad gets back into town this weekend. My daybed is nice, but it's small and squeaky. It's easier to fit three kitties on a queen-sized bed.

5) This morning: was it easy or difficult to start the day? Difficult. I'd only had six hours of sleep :-( I slept in my parent's bed (mom sleeps on the couch downstairs and dad is at a conference), so when my mom came in to start her day at 5:30am, she woke me up. I was really dragging on the drive back to Dayton and getting kind of swervy, but now I've had CAFFEINE and I feel FINE!!
Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] xoraclex helped me finish cleaning out the old apartment, and I turned my keys in to the manager.

It was very freeing to be rid of that apartment. It felt very small and claustrophobic after the space and grandeur of living in my new townhouse.

The house is....well, it's a mess. Boxes in every single room of the house. My bedroom is completely covered in clothes that I dumped out of boxes while looking for one article of clothing. It took me 15 minutes this morning to find my safety pins. Now that the stress of getting the old place cleaned out is gone, I need to really throw myself into unpacking the new place and making it look nice. I'm falling into old habits that I swore I wouldn't do at this place, like dishes in the sink and clothes on the floor. Must get organized!

I'm done with my shift in AVD, and now I'm subbing downstairs at Circ for three hours. I need the money, but I wish I could just go home :-( I'm premenstrual and really feeling the hermitish vibes. Alas, I have a three-hour class once I get off at 5pm.

I feel guilt from skipping my classes yesterday :-(
Apparently the sprinklers here go on automatically at 5:26am every morning.
As much as I adore my quiet apartment to myself, it always seems so empty and lonely after my family leaves :-(

My dad came down to spend the night last night, and we slept one last night at the Old Apartment. The movers came bright and early this morning, and they moved everything out quickly and efficiently. We were hoping there would be some entertainment getting the couch out (they had a LOT of trouble getting it in), but they slipped it right out the door.

They took less time than they estimated, so it was about $90 cheaper, which is always good.

My mom, [livejournal.com profile] suraimu, and my uncle drove up from Cincinnati and met us at the new place. My uncle helped a lot, he got the washer connected, he built a storage rack, helped with the shower rod and curtain, and hung the valances over the bay window.

We all just hung out, unpacked a bunch, and watched tv all day. Around 6:30 we headed out to O'Charley's for dinner with [livejournal.com profile] xoraclex and met up with my aunt, my cousin Jon, and his new wife Laura. They came up to see the new apartment and also to celebrate my birthday (Oct 17), my uncle's birthday (Oct 20) and Rob's birthday (Nov 20). After dinner we came back to the apartment, had cake and ice cream, and chatted for a good hour and a half.

OMG WHIPPY CAKE!

They just left, and now the apartment is empty and quiet again. Now I'm really here. My furniture is all set up, and I really really live here!
Thank you all for the birthday wishes!! I appreciate them so much. I love birthdays, because it's all about me ^_~ I demand a parade thrown in my honor on that day, and yesterday came pretty darn close to it.

I woke up early and realized it was my birthday and squee'd. But it was too early, so I forced myself to go back to sleep for a few hours.

I finally got up and got dressed and headed out the door. Whereupon more squeeage ensued, because the always wonderful [livejournal.com profile] xoraclex had decorated my back stoop and my car!! She painted the back stoop rainbow colors and covered it with glitter, and she tied happy ribbons on my car. I was so happy! THANK YOU, CARLETTE!! ^_^

I drove over to the old apartment, and on the way there the manager called me and said the people below me were complaining of a drip from their bathroom ceiling. I gave her permission to send the maintanence guys in, but I told her I haven't used that shower in over a week (I'm showering at Carlette's right now, because I haven't scrubbed out the new bathtub and DAMMIT I just realized I forgot to get a new shower curtain liner when I was at Target today). I got to the old apartment and found that the toilet had been running for days. I'm sorry for the wasted water, but I'm glad the apartment complex has to pay for it. I told them in August there was a problem with the toilet, they half-heartedly "fixed" it, and actually made the problem worse. So screw their water bill.

I packed up the car and went to The Original Pancake House for breakfast. I'd never been there, but it was close to the old apartment and I wanted chocolate chip pancakes. I was pretty disappointed in the service and the food. :-\ Oh well. Now I know I wasn't missing anything all the times I drove past the place.

I came home, took a shower at Carlette's, and got dressed in the new dress and boots I'd gotten the day before. RAWR. I looked hawt. Damn, that is a sweet Penny you might say. I felt good.

I got to work and found treats on my desk! My mom had brought me a brownie from The Bonbonerie, which are only my favorite brownies EVAR, and my coworker A. had made me chocolate chip cookies! A. also got me a cute little kitten stationary set. She is so kind.

I had to sit through a four-hour training session on "Tactical Communications." It was pretty damn dull. And the guy running the training had an adverb phobia. He kept saying, "We need to treat the patrons good. We don't want to treat them bad." He said it approximately 10 times! It was driving me nuts.

I finally got to leave and drove out to Wright State to pick up [livejournal.com profile] ladyoceanstar. She was totally rocking her new glasses and haircut, and she looked fantabulous! I popped in the Spamalot! soundtrack and we sped down to Cincinnati where we met [livejournal.com profile] box_o_kittens for dinner at Applebee's. I'd really been wanting to try their new Apple Walnut Chicken Salad, but apparently I was craving pasta, because I ordered shrimp alfredo. We'd wanted dessert, but there just wasn't time. YOU KNOW how I freak about time.

We got downtown and walked the block and a half to the theatre. My feet were KILLING me by this point, because the boots have a higher heel than I'm used to. Oh, the ways we suffer for beauty. :-\

The show was, in a word, SO FUCKING AWESOME. I nearly fell out of my seat laughing at several points. It was pretty much just the movie with songs added and the plot changed slightly, but it was just frickin' great. It was so fun to see all the best lines being said right in front of you by a live actor. The guy who played Lancelot was just the best. Since that role was created by Hank Azaria, that actor had to play a ton of different roles: Lancelot, Tim the Enchanter, the French Taunter, the Knights Who Say Ni. He made each of them so different, but so true to the original. The guy who played Arthur was definitely channeling his inner Tim Curry. It was cool, so I could imagine how Tim would have done it, but I would have also liked to see him make the part his own. The Lady of the Lake was the biggest disappointment. She was trying too hard to affect the proper accent and she sung from the back of her throat. Which is how I sing, but I'm not on frickin' Broadway.

It was such a great night, and it was so nice to be able to snuggle and smooch with Lisa. Best present evar ^_~ She bought me a tee shirt, which was awesome. I still must...thank her... for all that she did for me for my birthday ^_~

Toby and I got back to the apartment late, and I crashed. It really was the second best birthday evar!! (Sorry, seeing Eddie Izzard front-row center and getting him to sign my video "Happy birthday" and getting to hug him will ALWAYS remain number 1 ^_~)
I was wondering why the hell my DVR didn't tape Survivor and why it wasn't planning to tape Amazing Race. It turns out when I lived in Washington Twp I had those shows taping off the Cincinnati channel; and now that I've moved officially into Dayton, I no longer get Cincinnati channels. Goody.
Thursday [livejournal.com profile] suraimu and [livejournal.com profile] xoraclex came over to help me with moving and painting. Rob helped move heavy stuff and run errands. Carlette helped PAINT and unpack!! And she drank mint water. Whatever.

There are now apartment pictures on the Flickr.

I live here!!

Last night was the fifth annual Penny's Benihana Birthday Dinner. I love going to Benihana for my birthday. I love BANANA TEMPURA. OMG. I had several of my good friends join me, including [livejournal.com profile] box_o_kittens, [livejournal.com profile] xoraclex, [livejournal.com profile] octavialuna, [livejournal.com profile] kerinda, [livejournal.com profile] suraimu, [livejournal.com profile] ta2dmrm8, [livejournal.com profile] lthrlvr71, their friend Sherri, and my cousin Jenny.

I decided the best course of action for going to an expensive dinner would be to forget my purse at home. WFT is wrong with me?! I'm so forgetful lately! Carlette came to my rescue and fronted me the money for my dinner. THANK YOU!!!!

The chef made everyone sing happy birthday to me, and later on the waitress did as well. So I got sung to twice, which was fine with me. They also made me a wacky balloon hat, and I got an official polaroid. They started doing poloroids of birthday parties in 2004, so now I have three of them ^_^

The food was mostly delicious. Because of the way they'd layed the plates out, there ended up being an extra "bonus" plate of food that we shared around, and yet did not get charged for. Awesome. There was some drama over me not getting my damned steamed rice though. I need my steamed rice! When it finally came, it was overcooked and chewy :-\ The banana tempura made up for it, though. The entire reason I go to Benihana over any other Japanese restaurant is the banana tempura. OMG IT IS HEAVEN. I only get it once a year on my birthday, and I look forward to it every year!

I got some KICKASS presents! Lisa gave me a hand-painted bowl with chopstick rests. It is BEAUTIFUL, and I love that she created it herself ^_^ Everyone else gave me thoughtful and extremely awesome presents, and I'm so grateful to them. Thank you!!!

After dinner a few of us decided to go to Graeters. I can't believe V had never had Graeters before! I think she's a convert now ^_^ Lisa and I skipped ice cream, because FULL OF TEMPURA, but everyone else shared tastes of theirs. We just sat and talked, and it was so nice to have so many of my friends together.

Birthday pictures are also on the Flickr.

I was developing a headache by the time we left the restaurant, and on the way home an hour and a half later it had developed into a screamer. I took some ibuprofen and got into bed and whimpered until I fell asleep. I hate screamers. I haven't had one in a long time, but they're just unbearable.

I feel better this morning, but there's still a headache lurking, waiting to pounce again. I need more ibuprofen. I'm at work until 5. TIME AND A HALF, YAY.

My birthday is actually on Tuesday. I have to work, and then I'm going to see Spamalot with [livejournal.com profile] box_o_kittens and [livejournal.com profile] ladyoceanstar!!
*complain*

The maintanence guys are working on the apartment below me.  I hate that for a number of reasons:

1. It means they're prepping it for someone else to move in.  I like it empty.  I'm aware I can't have it empty forever unless I pay rent for it as well, but I liked having the only people in this building being me and my next-door neighbor, and the two apartments downstairs being empty.

2. While cleaning, they are playing really bad music really loudly.  I can't complain because it's 1:45 in the afternoon, and they're the maintanence guys.  Not people I want to get on my bad side.  I haven't even been here a month.  I don't want to be known as a "complainer."  It also reminds me that I'll be able to hear so much of the new neighbors....I feel claustrophobic already.  BLAH.

3. Oh, and there go the drills.

Dammit, I wanted a nap, but their shit music is too loud and shitty. ;_;

*/complain*
I'm sorry for scaring everyone this morning.

I woke up (after going to sleep around 6am) at 9am in my old apartment to a notice that I was being evicted for nonpayment of rent and I needed to be out by the 12th. My lease expires the 22nd. They said we failed to pay them $419. My mom read the lease, and it said we needed to pay the full month's rent of $599 even though I wasn't living there for a full month.

Now, the movers are coming on Saturday, so I'll be out by then. But I'd wanted the extra time to clean and hopefully get back some of my deposit. So I was a little panicked.

I called my mom, and she said she mailed the check, as she always does. She didn't have the checkbook with her, so she couldn't call the bank to see if it had cleared because she didn't know what check number it was.

I was really panicked, because I had a good reputation at this complex, and I have NEVER been evicted from anywhere. I was imagining them "losing" the check because they were mad at me for not renewing my lease. Or maybe they weren't accepting the check mom sent because it was $599 and not $419 and they were being asses about it.

Finally I went over there. Now, I learn from my mistakes. I make SPECTACULAR mistakes. When my car was repossessed three and a half years ago, I came veryveryveryveryVERY close to never getting it back because of how I yelled at the people. ^^;; So I made sure I was calm and friendly when I went to the apartment manager.

Fortunetly, they were also friendly. They said that they knew we always paid by mail on time every month, so they were as suprised as we were not to have received the check. The manager said it could very well be an error in processing, and to let her know when mom got home and checked with the bank. She tore up the eviction notice.

I got a call from her about three hours later; the check arrived in the mail today. So they charged us a late fee, but they did drop the eviction, and she said it would not show on my record.

Sorry again for scaring everyone, but I was panicked and in a time crunch since I had to get all of my electronics over to the new apartment before Time Warner arrived to hook everything up. So until Saturday evening, I do not have internet. I'm typing this now at the new place (where I have to keep my stupid modem in the living room because they're not allowed to install any more outlets).
