Oct. 21st, 2002 09:02 pmI've had a really good weekend.
Saturday was very busy, in the afternoon I hosted the first Wombat clothing swap, and
queensheba(Dani) and
crazyladynocats(Cyd) and I got some great new-to-us clothes. Other Wombats donated a LOT of clothes, that we are going to give to Dress For Success, which is a program that takes professional clothes and gives them to women from DV shelters or homeless shelters who are going on job interviews. They also take casual clothes for their new thrift shop. I called them today, and they only accept donations on Thursday, so I'll be dropping off a LARGE box and about 4 garbage bags full of clothes and shoes.
Then the 3 of us went to the League For Animal Welfare for their Cat Cuddle-a-thon. We snuggled many an adorable cat and kitten, and I think I'm going to volunteer there on a regular basis. They're a no-kill shelter, and I'm all for supporting those. I used to volunteer at the Scratching Post, a no-kill cat shelter in Silverton, and I adopted a cat from there, and I did a Pampered Chef fundraiser from them. Now that I live closer to the League, I'll give them what help I can.
After the Cuddle-a-thon, I said goodbye to the Wombat Cuties and went to my folks house for my family birthday party. My parents got me a new monitor!!! It is so nice to be able to SEE things on my computer. I lost our good monitor when I broke up with Eric, and was using Rob's old-and-dying one. It was like 12 inches and couldn't be turned off, because it would never turn on again. So to have a brand new, clean, 19 inch monitor is heaven. I can watch night scenes on my mpg's and it doesn't look like random black blobs! And at the party we had Kroger cake with whippy icing, which is my faaaavorite, so yum.
Then Rob and I left to go to Tim's house for a Game Party he was hosting. I brought along Scrabble, which was well received. We played about 4 games, and Ken was insane on a chocolate high. I've rarely seen him so loopy and random, but it made for a VERY amusing night. It was good to see Shannon and Dave back from their honeymoon looking happy and domestic. The gang gave me Kroger and Graeters gift certificates, which are VERY much appreciated.
And then
muskie_girl(Susie),
suraimu(Rob) and I returned to my apartment. Whew, what a day!
Sunday we all went to Rousters Apple Orchard and Shaw Pumpkin Farm with
pixiepoof(Lisa). My family has gone to Rousters and Shaw every fall for as far back as I can remember, so it's not autumn to me until I make the pilgrimage out there. The sad thing is it used to be ALL farm land out there, and now it's all built up with subdivisions. *sigh* Well, I got some cider and my pumpkin, so I'm happy.
Today I had another steno test that I didn't really practice for, but I still got a 96%. I think I've gotten used to 40 words per minute, but I still falter when he goes faster. I REALLY REALLY need to practice since I didn't do ANY this weekend. Our next test is in 2 weeks. Seeing as we do a lesson a day, we'll know a LOT more letters by the end of 2 weeks, so it'll be a LOT to remember.
Susie mentioned to me that she'd never been to Benihana's, so I HAD to take her. So we went there for dinner tonight. Mmmmm, it was so delicious. I got extra steamed rice too, I love it topped with their ginger sauce. And then Susie left to go home, and I used some of my gift certificates for a lovely Graeters milkshake (happiness in a cup).
So there's my weekend, and I really can't complain about it! Now I must go do homework and go to bed at a decent hour like a good girl. BLEAH.
