L'Shanah Tovah!! ^_^

My mom baked two loaves of Challah this morning, so the house smells wonderful. I'm going to have to miss dinner tonight for a wedding :-( It's for an old friend that I've really lost touch with. We were very good friends from about when I was 16 to when I was 22. After that we lost touch, but he still invited me to his wedding, and I RSVP'd, so I've got to go.

I didn't go to services this morning, I usually only go to Yom Kippour services.

I hope all my Jewish friends have a very sweet New Year ^_^

is this a friend i know? who's getting married?

... and.. i am still miffed that i never got invited to any .. well i can't spell it, but the thing my jewish buddies do at age 13 =) botmizvah? something like that => is that close?

anyway, i know you and i weren't close enough at that time for the invite.. but darn it. i would have gotten to go to Tracy's for sure, if not for that thing where she moved away for five years =>.

lauren taught me to play dradle years ago. i thought it was cool. christians are so boring.

i discovered baklava in a kosher deli in paris, so i have warm and fuzzy feelings. *wink*

silly mood today. anyway. happy holidays. and how cool does Challah sound anyway? i love these words. =) so pretty.

It's one of my old Tristate Online friends, I don't think you ever met him.

It's Bat Mitzvah for a girl, and Bar Mitzvah for a boy ^_^

Mmmm, my mom's Challah was SOOOOO good ^_^

Doesn't matter if you can spell it or not, since it's not really a straight translation - it's just an approximation of how it sounds. That's why you see "Happy Hannukah!", "Happy Hannuka!", "Happy Chanuka!" et al. So go nuts. :D

I'm not Christian. :) Granted, I grew up Christian, but, I don't believe in it anymore and besides, they don't have a specific new year celebration- they do it when the calendar changes.

That's what I meant. The normal calendar is considered the "christian calendar."

Well, actually, it's an adaptation of the Julian calendar first developed by Julias Ceasar...hence things like "July" and "August" (Julias and Augustus) but whatever. It was modified by a monk- Brother Ummphfhumpha (Gregory, actually, hence the "Gregorian Calendar").

Christians really have no special tie to the First of January, as I would think most other religions have some sort of reason for picking the date they do.
