There's a kitten outside. We don't know if it's a stray or an outdoor kitten that belongs to our neighbors. We've never seen it before. It doesn't have a collar or any tags. He's decided he likes us, and is now sitting on the front stoop mewling pathetically to be let in. Break my heart, why dontcha. We can't take him. We have 5 cats. Our friends who are here helping my sister move can't take him, they have 3 cats, and 2 of them are grey tiger striped, which is what he is. They'd NEVER tell any of them apart, lol. We're bugging my sister to take him, but she's already lined up a kitten to adopt; she's getting her on Monday. And the problem is, a little girl kitten and a little boy kitten, and not being able to spay/neuter them till 6 months. *sigh*

The poor thing has an eye infection :-(

Awwww, that breaks my heart! I love cats so much like you I guess, we attract em' like lint eh? I so wish I could take the kitten, I would if I lived closer..We get so many strays around here, and I feed them when I can. You have a good heart, to even consider that kitten, most people don't give mother nature's creatures the time of day, y'know?

xx

I can't just let it go :-( We gave him some milk, and cuddled him and pet him for a little bit. He purred SO loudly. He seems quite happy and comfortable hanging out in our bushes, he might be a neighbors cat. But I'm worried about that eye infection... :-(

Gathering up my animal shelter experience, I say to you: Bullshit. Boy kittens can have their nads removed from 7 weeks on. As long as they've dropped, they can be removed without any problems. *nod* Saw it done, saw little ex-boys grow up fine. Not sure about the girls...we always had way more boys than girls at the shelter.

Poor baby. As for the eye infection, take him to the vet and explain that he belongs to no one but you're worried. You'll probably get a break on the vet's fees. (At least, any decent vet would do that.) Also the vet might hook you up with a low-cost/no-cost spay/neuter clinic.

Ok you can fix a cat way before 6 months, my new kitten in not 5 months and he is done. He prob. has a upper resp. infection most vets will not treat a stray animal because they can loose there lic. you can call the shelter and they will treat him and put him up for adoption and that is where an owner will be looking for him. It bothers me that people always take anmals and find them homes and do not call the shelter, they are not bad and don't kill everythign that walks in the dorr. The do find homes for pets & get pets back to owners. Also milk is very bad for cats if you want to give it anythinng plain old water will be best. Also keep your cats away ur is cont.

I'm kind of hurt that you're chastizing me for not taking him to a shelter without knowing me very well. I know shelters aren't evil, I volunteered at several for 3 years, WITH severe cat allergies, thankyouverymuch. It's not a matter of not trusting the shelters, I think it's more a matter of 1. we're not sure if he's really a stray 2. my sister is seriously considering taking him and 3. if my sister decides not to take him, [livejournal.com profile] suraimu's sister might take him. So we wanted to keep him with us. My sister is studying to become a vet, and we have a very close relationship with our vet. We would pay to have him treated, whether we keep him or not. It's not a matter of not trusting shelters. So please don't jump on me for that.

I did not mean to jump on you my point is if you do not know if he is a stray you should at lest check with the shelter to see if someone is missing a kitten or not. He could be lost and someone is looking for him, if someone just takes him and gives him a good home with calling or taking him to a shelter (or at least getting him scanned to see if he has a chip) they could be taking someones pet that is missing. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings that is not what I ment to do.
