142 days until the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival!!

I'm getting very excited about it, I've started planning all the things I'll need to pack and buy. Most importantly I need a tent. I also need it for PSG, so I should buy it by next month. I've been browsing ebay for good deals. I'm hoping that being a Henna Vendor at PSG will make me enough money for my admission to MWMF ^_^

Welcome to the new people who've recently friended me, sorry for being so whiney in the last week, I'm not usually like that. Just when I'm sick. I don't handle discomfort well at all ;-p Heh, I like to be comfortable ^_~ But now I'm on knock-you-on-your-ass cough medicine and antibiotics, so that should cut out the whining ^_~

Dad's home for spring break, full house again. That means he brings his cat, CQ, home, and she just LOVES my cat, Bat. She'll follow him, wait outside my door for him, and just generally adore him. It's very cute.

carmenvitae, thank you for the picture of Evan! He is so adorable ^_^ You really have such beautiful children.

April 7: Spring Quarter begins
April 12: Queer Prom
Either April 12 or April 13: Friends party
April 17: Vienna Teng Concert - Nashville, TN - Also my 1/2 birthday, only 6 more months till I turn 25 ^_~
April 19: Seder - MUST GET HOUSE CLEAN by March 31st so I can invite special guests ^_^
April 21: Dar Williams Concert - Indianapolis

Anything else I can cram into this month?? Plus work every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday!!

i'm mainly disappointed when cool people i know go because they have a policy of excluding transwomen, which is so NOT cool. i actually have done a fair amount of activism on this issue. so much of women's space policy is set based on what is done at michigan and so now there are women's centers all over the country that exclude transwomen. and transwomen are so important + essential to feminism and women's space and the women's community. i just can't stomach an institution that is supposed to be feminist and yet excludes a whole class of women.

I can understand that...I feel largely uneducated about the topic right now. All I know is they won't allow transwomen, and no one will tell me WHY. I can see how it would make a transwoman feel like a slap in the face, like "you'll never be good enough, or real enough for us"

So I'm conflicted. Can you educate me on the trans side? I'm also trying to get the "official" version from MWMF.

what they will tell you is that they don't exclude women because they have a "don't ask don't tell policy" but the fact is if a transwoman says she's trans, they'll escort her off "the land."

also they'll say that seeing a penis can be traumatic that it undermines "safe space" but of course what they don't say is that 1 in 4 lesbian relationships is abusive. that women abuse each other. that "women-born-woman only space" is not inherently safer than any other space.

what they'll tell you is that transwomen are "different" because they weren't raised as women. but what i say is that transwomen have always been women. they had a different kind of girlhood but it was a girlhood nonetheless. more than any other group of women they need supportive women-only space. the world is a very hostile place to transwomen.

you are right, mwmf is a slap in the face to transwomen and that's why i refuse to support mwmf.
