No, second cousin, I think. If Penny's dad and her dad are first cousins, their children are second cousins, and Jill and Penny's children are third cousins to each other. No? Do I have this all mixed up?

If Penny's dad and Famous Person's dad are cousins, then Famous Person's dad is Penny's second cousin. Any of his children would then be Penny's third cousins.

Agh! Well, I'm not an authority, other than hearing my Southern family tell me who's related to whom and how. From what I understand, your parent's cousin is YOUR second cousin. And their children are your third. (But it's possible their children are a "once-removed" thing.)

Frankly, I think nobody knows for sure. haha. I'm finding conflicting stories via google. Here's one, though, if we want to settle on an agreed authority :P

I always thought my parents' cousins were my first cousins, once removed. Whatever... it's all much too complicated after first cousins. I once asked my grandfather how so-and-so was related to us, and he answed, "Well..... he's a kind of cousin." That's probably the best answer to all of this.

Anyway, I'm willing to concede to whatever ancestry.com thinks is correct.
