Dear Penny,

You really, really, REALLY cannot have caffeine.  Especially after 4pm.  If the restaurant does not serve a caffeine-free diet beverage, and you don't want the sugar in the lemon-lime drink offered, then you're just going to have to go with water.

You cannot have caffeine.

Sincerely,
--Your sleep-deprived Self

I started to recommend tea. Remembered you hate tea with the firery hate of a thousand Suns. Rescinded recommendation. (But had to post anyway because I was here.)

*snickers* It's just so un-tasty!

I don't suppose decaf coffee would be an option?

Or maybe fruit juice? Or does the fruit juice have too much sugar?

Not that this is useful as far as restaurants go, but speaking as a diabetic who *loves* fruit juice, the next time you go to the grocery store pick up a six pack (10-oz plastic bottles, located in the juice aisle) of Tropicana's Light 'n Healthy 1/2 Less Sugar & Calories fruit juice. I've tried both the grape and the apple, and they are *very* yummy! Technically, they are a "beverage blend" of half juice and half filtered water, but they are the best low-sugar juice that I've tried so far, and 10 oz only has 70 or so calories and 17 g of sugar. Mmmmmm! I can have my juice and drink it too! :)

Tea actually has more caffeine in it than coffee or soda. It has the most caffeine out of any drink except maybe Red Bull and the like. Sure, there's caffeine free tea, but there's as much chance of restaurants carrying it as there is of them carrying caffeine free soda. Though honestly, you can't blame them- I doubt they'd make much profit by carrying the non-caffeinated kind, at least for soda. Diet soda is really bad for you anyways with all the chemicals they use to sweeten it, so consider it a blessing and hit up the water! :D
