Oct. 6th, 2005 02:00 pmI'm sorry for scaring everyone this morning.
I woke up (after going to sleep around 6am) at 9am in my old apartment to a notice that I was being evicted for nonpayment of rent and I needed to be out by the 12th. My lease expires the 22nd. They said we failed to pay them $419. My mom read the lease, and it said we needed to pay the full month's rent of $599 even though I wasn't living there for a full month.
Now, the movers are coming on Saturday, so I'll be out by then. But I'd wanted the extra time to clean and hopefully get back some of my deposit. So I was a little panicked.
I called my mom, and she said she mailed the check, as she always does. She didn't have the checkbook with her, so she couldn't call the bank to see if it had cleared because she didn't know what check number it was.
I was really panicked, because I had a good reputation at this complex, and I have NEVER been evicted from anywhere. I was imagining them "losing" the check because they were mad at me for not renewing my lease. Or maybe they weren't accepting the check mom sent because it was $599 and not $419 and they were being asses about it.
Finally I went over there. Now, I learn from my mistakes. I make SPECTACULAR mistakes. When my car was repossessed three and a half years ago, I came veryveryveryveryVERY close to never getting it back because of how I yelled at the people. ^^;; So I made sure I was calm and friendly when I went to the apartment manager.
Fortunetly, they were also friendly. They said that they knew we always paid by mail on time every month, so they were as suprised as we were not to have received the check. The manager said it could very well be an error in processing, and to let her know when mom got home and checked with the bank. She tore up the eviction notice.
I got a call from her about three hours later; the check arrived in the mail today. So they charged us a late fee, but they did drop the eviction, and she said it would not show on my record.
Sorry again for scaring everyone, but I was panicked and in a time crunch since I had to get all of my electronics over to the new apartment before Time Warner arrived to hook everything up. So until Saturday evening, I do not have internet. I'm typing this now at the new place (where I have to keep my stupid modem in the living room because they're not allowed to install any more outlets).
